Technology already plays an important role in our students' lives and will continue to shape their future. Our responsibility is not to resist it or embrace it blindly, but to integrate it thoughtfully. Students must first develop the essential human skills that define a great education - critical thinking, creativity, collaboration, and meaningful relationships. Technology should then be used to enhance learning, not replace it.

LBUSD is one of California's strongest school districts because generations before us invested wisely in our schools. We have a responsibility to preserve that legacy while preparing for the future. Responsible stewardship means making thoughtful investments, maintaining outstanding facilities, supporting exceptional educators, and ensuring every decision reflects our commitment to students, taxpayers, and future generations.

Trusted Governance
A school board's role is to provide strategic leadership, responsible oversight, and accountability, not to manage the day-to-day operations of the district. I believe in asking thoughtful questions, relying on expert guidance, making transparent decisions, and exercising sound fiscal stewardship. Good governance builds trust, supports educators, and keeps the board focused on what matters most: student success.
About Kimberly
A Laguna Beach parent, tech CEO, and advocate for our schools
I'm Kimberly Smith — a Laguna Beach mom, technology CEO, and philanthropist running for the LBUSD Board of Education. My husband Adam and I chose Laguna Beach for its schools, its values, and its sense of community. This fall our daughter starts sixth grade at Thurston Middle School and our son starts second grade at Top of the World Elementary, so the direction of this district is personal to my family for years to come.
As CEO of Copia, a venture-backed Public Benefit Corporation, I've led the company to recognition by Fast Company and a spot on Inc. Magazine's Best Places to Work list, while building teams, managing budgets, and holding the organization accountable for results. I bring that same discipline to the boards of Loaves & Fishes Family Kitchen and formerly Sunsar Maya.
You'll find me in the bleachers at Riddle Field, on the pool deck for water polo, and at school board meetings asking hard questions. I'm running because our schools deserve leaders who listen, explain their decisions, and put students ahead of personal interests.
