Family & Community

I'm Kimberly Smith, a Laguna Beach mom, technology CEO, and philanthropist running for the LBUSD Board of Education. My husband, Adam, and I chose Laguna Beach for its schools, values, and sense of community. This fall, our daughter starts sixth grade at Thurston Middle School and our son starts second grade at Top of the World Elementary, so the district's future is personal to our family for years to come.

Showing Up

You'll find me in the bleachers at Riddle Field, on the pool deck for water polo, at school performances, and at board meetings. Growing up in a family of public servants taught me early that leadership is about service and attending schools across multiple states and internationally shaped how I lead today.

Professional Background

I serve as CEO of Copia, a venture-backed Public Benefit Corporation recognized by Fast Company and named one of Inc. Magazine's Best Places to Work. I've built teams, managed budgets, and led organizations through complex challenges and I bring that same accountability to my board service with Loaves & Fishes Family Kitchen and Sunsar Maya.

Why I'm Running

Over the past eighteen months, growing concerns about LBUSD's transparency and governance led me to ask harder questions about how major decisions were being made. Our district needs leaders who listen, explain their decisions, welcome accountability, and put students ahead of politics.
